Web 2.0 Resources

I enjoyed using the Web 2.0 Resources.  They are valuable tools that would engage students in learning.  The three resources I used were Glogster, Animoto, and VoiceThread.  "Because products in this category vary so widely, instructional uses for them are also varied and rich" (Roblyer & Doering, 2013, p. 179).

The Glogster resource was a fun and interactive tool that students would enjoy completing on their own.  There were many graphics and videos that were readily available and easy to access.  This tool is very useful to teachers and students.

The Animoto resource was my favorite.  I enjoyed putting the video together with my graphics and text.  This tool could also be used by teachers and students.  It was user friendly and fun to play with.

The VoiceThread resource was my least favorite.  I did not enjoy recording my voice on it.  This tool could also be used by teachers and students, but I found it to be the least user friendly.

"The internet has made such a difference in our society that it is difficult to remember when we did not depend on it for communications, instruction, and even entertainment" (Robyler & Doering, 2013, p.210).
With the abundance of useful resources that are available, it would be a shame if teachers didn't use them.  "Web-based activities have great potential to enhance learning, but they are time consuming to develop and implement and difficult to design in ways that have substantial, positive impact on student's learning" (Robyler & Doering, 2013, p. 240).  This may be the reason that some teachers shy away from them.

  1. I love Animoto as well! It is very user friendly. I also like how you can choose the 30 second video option or upgrade for more advanced options. Nice video on the solar system! I could see using this with every subject. Both teachers and students will benefit from this resource!

  2. I agree that the web2.0 resources are very valuable tools to engage student learning. The Glogster and Animoto were great tools to use this week. I commend you on your VoiceThread, Nice Job. I can't stand how my voice sounds recorded. You did a great job!

  3. Great job! These resources would be very helpful within the clasrfom.I agree that these resources can be time consuming and difficult to design with the hopes of impact on student learning. I think they are great to get the students attention and motivated.

  4. Excellent job! I really enjoyed Glogster and Animoto too. However, I felt like Glogster wasn't very user friendly. I actually had to watch a few YouTube videos to figure out how to do a few things. I really liked my outcome though. I loved Animoto, and I think students would really enjoy creating their own as well.

  5. I love the way your Animoto pics come into view on each slide. I'm definitely going to have to 'play' with this a little more. I like how you presented a really simple concept such as the planets. This would be great to run continuously throughout a lab or research assignment! We have about 15 minutes of open class before classes actually begin each morning and I try to have something that is on projector either newsworthy or simply a vivid picture to help link the lesson of the day. By the time they arrive for class and I am at the door they are telling me how the video clip or picture is goig to link to lecture. Kind of like a mystery hook. I would love to have enough time to create a bank of these almost emojicon worthy to really get them going! They are discussing science which is what I want and it is among their peers which research equates to success. It would be fun for us teachers and the students!
